The Best Draft Pick 1997-2006
In the same vein as the "let down" thread but with a positive spin. In terms of value and/or production, what was our best pick draft pick from the past decade. I put a time frame or else everybody would pick Roger Staubach(10th round) etc.
IMO I would say Jason Witten. To get a reliable and perennial Pro-Bowl TE in 3rd round was a godsend, as we hadn't had one since Jay Novacek left. That year was solid overall as we did get Terrance and Bradie. But we got fantstic value with Witten.

I'd second, Jason Witten.

I have to agree with Witten also. You can make a strong case for Newman as well, but he was a high first round pick, so you expect him to be good.

Best pick or best value pick?
For value... how about Patrick Crayton (7th in 2004) or Marion Barber (4th 2005.)

Romo wasn't drafted.
I'm assuming this thread is just about the Cowboys.
Witten was both a great player and value pick. I'm going to have to go with Ware. It's all about getting pressure on the QB, I'm banking on him winning the DPOY.

I would say Ware or Newman. They play more important roles than Witten.

Witten.
Romo if you aren't including only draft picks.

Wow, I can't believe people are overlooking what is, to me, the obvious answer:
Flozell Adams. Here is a guy that has played at the level of the top 5-7 LTs in the league for an extended period of time...all at the value of a early-mid second rounder. That is a no brainer, for me.

I'd say top 5 - 7 is a little too generous. Perhaps top 10.

I probably would have gone with that, but he said in the last few years.

haha oops I was thinking of the bust thread.
I would probably throw Flo up with Ware and Newman then.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. Flozell has been no where near the top 7 tackles in the NFL during his time here. He's been inconsistent and at times the worst lineman we have. He committs and ungodly amount of false start penalties (which has almost single handedly killed a huge number of drives) and I would say that he's probably cost the Cowboys at least a game a year in the win column based on this alone.

t new, d ware, roy, all our high first rd defensive selections were excellent, very rare we draft a bust on a first rd defensive player, alot of teams cannot say the same...and all of those players are top 5 in their positions...
i wouldnt mind having that type of player on our D line somewhere though...
but im going with crayton, in the 7th, who will be a starter for us at some point, and a heavy contributer this year
witten in the 3rd though is excellent, you would like to think you would have to search in the 1st for that type of talent...i just feel like our team values dual TE sets too much...i think i hated the anthony fasano pick more then any other selection in recent years
Aside from when we passed up steven jackson :(

Bobby Carpenter.
Just kidding.
Witten is tough to beat. Crayton is also tough. First round production out of Witten so far, and I think Crayton has done more than most teams second and third round wr picks.
Put me down for either of them.

For production i think it would have to go to d-ware he has been solid over his first 2 years and is shaping up to be a beast.
For value it would have to be witten and crayton for the obvious reasons already stated. I think if Canty has a big year in the new scheme we will be able to put him there aswell as he had 1st round talent but just had question marks with his injuries

Marion Barber had a ton of issues coming out and was a total steal for us.
