Question What do you honestly expect out of Williamson this year?

Ok, I know everyone loves to say he's a bust and what not, but what do you, honestly, expect out of him this year? He's been working with specialists at Nike (who knows if that's really any help or not) and apparently they found something wrong with his eyes, where one is weaker than the other and that it affects his peripheral vision. We all know he had alot of dropped passes that should have been caught.

But he has the talent, the speed, and if he can work on his hands, he could be money. This is his 3rd year, the infamous "breakout" year for wide receivers. Does Williamson shine or prove that he really is a bust?

I'm going to be optimistic and say that he has a good year. I think 60+ catches, 1,500 yards, and 7 touchdowns is not out of the question. However, with Jackson at QB, it will be tough for us to get a good passing game going. I think we'll see alot of YAC from Troy this year.

Well, this could just a huge homer pick, and for all i know make no sense at all, but i'm figuring in the two years that he's been on our team, he's had 3 starting QBs throwing too him, two diffrent head coachs, and two diffrent offensive systems. Now it sounds like he's working hard this offseason, we should have some consistency at QB and Jackson has a good arm, so hopefully he can get it down the feild, unlike Brad Johnson. Plus with the our two RB system we now have with Chester Tayor and Adrian Peterson, he should get atleast some of the coverage on him weakend. So i'm thinking this year will be a break out year for T-Will, or atleast start showing some chance of being the big time WR that we hoped for when we drafted him.

Actually bonzi kind of hit the nail on the head. But I also believe he is working very hard to improve in this day n age of having so many premadonna wide outs. Isn't kind of refreshing to know our young wide outs only real problem is holding on to the ball. And isn't also refreshing to hear him being accountable for it. Working hard to improve it, With the Chris Henry's And Charlie rogers and co this seems like a very correctable problem, Especially when this has been a take the money and run position for the last several years.

It really depends on TJ and Childress. I think if TJ favours him and settles in quickly, 60-70 for 1000-1200 with 4 or so TD is a realistic expectation.

However if the QB thing doesnt sort itself out he will struggle. I thought that he seemed to be working well with TJ from the limited snaps he got and that TJ made a genuine effort to get the ball to TWill. Just gotta snap it up.

He is set to be our #1 and he has shown some flashes in the past, just needs to put it all together this year.

Make no mistake about it he will be a better football player than he was in the past. With that said it doesn't mean he's going to immediately become the player we thought he would when we drafted him but he will contribute. I think we need to learn how to use him better, all we do is send him deep on nearly every play. This year we need to run some screens and shorter passes to him and let him use his speed to run with the ball instead of without. In conclusion he will not be our best player but I think he will have a positive influence on this team.

I think 500-800 yards is more realistic boys. Add in that you just drafted Rice, who may be a better reciever than Wililamson already. Add in the others that you have, and a running game that should be money. Plus TJ is a big question mark wether he will be good, or not.

I'll agree. Somewhere in the vicinity of 55 catches 750 yds and 4-5 td sounds about right.

60 catches for 1500 yards???? No way. That would be 25 yards per catch. If he reaches 1000 yards that would be amazing in my mind. His eyes may be bad but seriously, some of the adjustments he made on the ball last year were horrible. I could make some of those plays with a patch over one eye. Troy, you are the number 7 overall pick and got a huge pay check you never should've...catch the damn ball.

I'd be happy enough if Williamson remained active for all 16 games.

I expect plenty more dropped passes and frustration on my part. On the bright side I don't expect coaches to make any more excuses for him, and his time in Minnesota will grow short. And to think he graced my fantasy football team for a time last year. Darn you Troy Williamson.

I've been on the "don't write off Troy Williamson" badwagon for some time now. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a fan of the pick at the time of when the Vikings seemingly reached on him, but what's done is done I say and the kid certainly does have talent. It's just that, because he was a Top 10 pick, critics are (unreasonably) expecting him to blossom before his third year despite him being a raw prospect coming out of college to begin with, not to mention he was learning a second offense in as many years in 2006.

I thought Williamson made great strides last year, he was attacking the field and running some good routes early on, but the loss of confidence from his drops coupled with Brad Johnson's inability to be a starter in this league and Childress' less-than-thrilling playcalling as the year wore on didn't help. Now that he has T-Jack, with his live right arm and mobility, as his QB as well as the experience of two years in the legague and a year in Childress' offense especially under his belt, I think he'll continue to progress and improve.

Although he'll need someone else on the receiving core, other than Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson who are both backs, to step up as legitimate weapons. Line up AD in the slot or out wide, I say. ;)

I love the excuse that "he was learning a new offense".
He wasn't running new routes, they were just called something different,
plus what offense is it that requires him to drop wide open passes ??
which one is that again ??

...like I said..if he can stay on the active roster for all 16 games I'd think
that would be a major accomplishment for him.

Perhaps it is a little high, but he has the speed to go deep. There is no reason for him to do 5 yard stop routes, get him in the open field. If he makes better adjustments on the ball then he should have no problem being a deep threat.

Jake Reed was the last Vikings WR to go Nike for eye problems. The following season he recorded 85 cathes for 1,100+ yards and 4 TD's. This was coming off of a 5 catch 65 yard season with no touchdowns.

I promise you that Jake Reed had someone on the other side of him to draw double coverages....who exactly is going to do that in this offense ?
Both might've been fast but Reed was a legit burner.
Williamson is more of a screen / slant guy

If they don't just send him deep all the time I think Williamson could have a solid year. In the Carolina game they gave him screens and slants and he looked like he could handle himself well. Do more of that and Williamson will produce.

Reed was no burner, Williamson is certainly faster. Willamsons only problem is catching the ball. If that can be fixed he'll certainly be more productive. Reed didn't have problems catching the football in college because the white stripe made it easier for his eyes to focus on the ball.

Reed was a walking band aid. The guy was way over rated and never really justified his draft status

Honestly, if he can learn to catch the ball he can have a 1000 yard 8 TD season. He gets open, and we all know hes fast. And with Tavaris's strong arm that could be dangerous.

Now, let's change this topic. How do you guys think Tarvaris Jackson will do this year? I think he'll have sort of like Vince Youngs statistics (keep in mind they weren't very good).
