Best team not to win a championship
who are some of the best teams not to win a championship?
my vote goes to:
2003 kansas city chiefs
2001 seattle mariners
1999-2000 portland trail blazers
2001-2002 sacramento kings

I don't think they should be mentioned for this.

I hate the Hens (I hope you mean Sens) i'm a loyal Leafs fan who cheered for Buffalo in that series. It's just that Buffalo struggled to beat alot of the elite teams in the regular season and it's not like they ran away with the presidents trophy.

I don't care what anyone says, the best team that didn't win a championship was in soccer.
Dutch National team World Championships of 1974. We earned it, we deserved it, we were the better team (led by the almighty Johan Cruijff), those damn germans had no business winning that game, but they did.

2001 Seattle Mariners. 116 wins and we lost to the Yankees in five in the ALCS. That ****ing sucked.

Yet again another "best of thread" that is going to show almost no historical depth. Seriously, just say "best in the last 10-20 years". That's all almost anyone can remember or is informed about. The 2003 Chiefs? Come on....
By the way, if you can't even make the championship game (or get out of the first round in the case of the Mavericks) you have absolutely no business in the discussion. I also think you need to be good for at least 3-4 years.
A few nominations.
-Minnesota Vikings of the 1970's.
-Cleveland Indians of the 1990's.
-First Buffalo Superbowl team (the rest were clearly inferior and the product of a very weak AFC)

That was a great regular season team, but it wasn't a dominate team. If they were they would have at least made the World Series once. The years surrounding that one big year were pretty underwhelming.

Setting the regular season wins record isn't dominant? If that isn't dominant then I don't know what is.

I still think the Dutch soccer team of '74 owns them all. Many dutchmen (including myself, and I was born 12 years later!) are still pissed about losing that one. We were the best. By a landslide.

Winning in the playoffs for starters.
They might have been a really good team that one year, but you can match them up against other teams that didn't win the series and it wouldn't be close. Hell, they couldn't get past 5 games against a team that also didn't win the series.

For basketball, since I don't know much about the history of basketball like football, I can really only think of the Charles Barkley Suns or the Stockton-Malone Utah Jazz. Such is the badassness of Michael Jordan.
