Official Bio

Stars
Strengths:
Extraordinarily productive...Very intelligent with a high football IQ...Has a quick delivery...Displays nice poise in the pocket...Can throw on the run...Makes good decisions for the most part...Real tough...Has a knack for coming through in the clutch...Truly loves the game and is the football equivalent of a gym rat...Durable...Has a lot of experience...Hard worker...Team leader...Had a terrific senior season.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the height or bulk that you look for...Arm strength is merely average...Isn't a great athlete...Holds the ball down by his waist...Has an unorthodox throwing motion that may need to be tweaked...Inconsistent footwork and mechanics...Isn't as accurate as his completion percentage would lead you to believe...Has to learn to work from under center...Not accustomed to making NFL reads or throws... Limited mobility ...Played in an offense that inflated his stats.

Notes:
Threw for more touchdown passes than anyone in major-college history...The Red Raiders all-time leading passer and is second on the NCAA's all-time passing yardage list...Also holds the NCAA record for career 300-yard games (32) and 400-yard games (20)...The only player in NCAA history to pass for 5,000 or more yards in two seasons...Finished 4th in the Heisman Trophy balloting in 2008...Won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as a senior...Father was a coach...Brother Clark is a quarterback at Abilene Christian...Was named Texas' Gatorade Player of the Year as a prep...A three-year starter...The latest in a long line of prolific Texas Tech signal callers...A better prospect than Kliff Kingsbury, B.J Symons, Sonny Cumbie or Cody Hodges but that isn't saying much since none of them made an impact in the NFL...Will be labeled a "System Quarterback" and that is to be expected since Mike Leach has a history of taking guys with average talents and making them look like John Elway...A great college player but not nearly the pro prospect that his numbers and press clippings might indicate...Has a pretty steep hill to climb and will likely require a lot of work, patience and development but his top-notch intangibles give him a fighting chance...Profiles as a backup.
