Strengths:
Has a large frame with long arms...High-effort player with a great motor...Decent hands and ball skills...Tries hard as a blocker and can handle himself in space...Runs with some power...Knows how to get open...Smart with nice instincts and awareness...Hard worker...Got better every year...Team leader and captain...Good program pedigree.
Weaknesses:
Will need to add some more weight and bulk up...Sub par speed and quickness...Stiff with average athleticism...Isn't explosive and lacks a burst...Won't stretch the field or be a vertical threat...Not real stout at the point of attack...Will get caught reaching as a blocker...Gets too high and does not always use proper leverage...Upside is likely limited.
Notes:
Older brother, Jake, was a starting quarterback at William & Mary and his cousin, Scott Perkins, also played football for the Tribe...Worked as a backup early in his career before taking over the starting job in 2007...Was named 1st Team All-ACC in 2008...Had a terrific senior campaign and really improved his draft stock...Will attempt to follow in the footsteps of recent Cavs tight end prospects who are currently playing in the NFL like Heath Miller and Tom Santi...Probably profiles as more of a backup but has some raw tools to work with and develop.
