Round 1-3
Pick | Team | Player | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|
| Jacksonville Jaguars | Kayvon Thibodeaux EDGE/Oregon | Thibodeaux's explosive first step as a pass rusher gives him the nod over Hutchinson for the #1 overall pick. Though Thibodeaux has his weaknesses against the run and has had some injuries, but athletic prowess is unmatched. The Jaguars may look to trade doww, but pairing Josh Allen and Thibodeaux could turn their defense into a top tier unit. They may consider Alabama OT Evan Neal as a possibility to help Trevor Lawrence the run game get to where it is needed. |
| Detroit Lions | Aidan Hutchinson EDGE/Michigan | The Lions get the home state boy in Hutchinson at #2. Hutchinson's blend of size, strength, and athleticism make him a high end prospect who can set the edge and get after the passer, as seen against Ohio State this past year. A Heisman Finalist and now a household name, Lions fans will love the improvement to the defense he will bring. Of course, QB isn't out of the question if the Lions fall in love with one at the Senior Bowl where they will be coaching Liberty's Malik Willis and North Carolina's Sam Howell. |
| Houston Texans | Evan Neal OT/Alabama | The Texans have already expressed their desire to trade down and pick up more picks, but if they stay and decide to ride with Davis Mills, Neal is an excellent blidn side choice. He is massive and has the footwork to sustain as a blindside blocker. Though his run blocking can be inconsistent at times, he is punishing when he gets to the second level. The Texans could look at an EDGE rusher if one falls or if Michigan's David Ojabo has a top tier offseason. |
| New York Jets | Kyle Hamilton S/Notre Dame | The Jets have two picks in the top ten and numerous chances to improve their team. This freedom allows them to go Best Player Available at 4 and take my #3 overall rated player in the draft in Hamilton. Kyle Hamilton has Sean Taylor-like range to his game with massive size and playmaking ability. He can be the quarterback of the defense for this squad. Of course, both OT and EDGE are big needs, so they could consider NC State's Ikem Ekwonu or Michigan's David Ojabo here. |
| New York Giants | Ikem Ekwonu OT/NC State | The Giants will have a new regime and that direction may determine this pick. One thing is for sure, their offensive line needs reworked. Ekwonu is a road grading LT who loves pancaking in the run game. He improved massively this season against pass rushers and doesn't let defenders get in clean. If they move to more of a zone blocking scheme, Mississippi State's Charles Cross would be in consideration. The Giants could go with a CB in LSU's Derek Stingley to help on defense. |
| Carolina Panthers | Charles Cross OT/Mississippi State | The Panthers are another team with a glaring hole at Offensive Tackle and Cross is the best pure pass protector on the board. Though the Panthers seem to want to run the ball more, Cross would allow their QB to stay clean and give some power to set the edge on outside zone runs. |
| New York Giants (f/ CHI) | David Ojabo EDGE/Michigan | Ojabo is an athletic monster who burst onto the scene this year seemingly out of nowhere opposite Aidan Hutchinson. Great lower body strength and drive matched with an unreal bend, Ojabo could fix the Giants pass rush problem. They could go mega offensive line for this draft and get far and away the best Center in the class in Tyler Linderbaum as well. |
| Atlanta Falcons | George Karlafitis EDGE/Purdue | The Falcons have seemingly needed an EDGE rusher forever and this class has a few worthy of the #8 selection. Karlafitis is a multi-D fit able to play with his hand down or as a stand up rusher. Purdue used him creatively showcasing his abilities to work his rip and swim moves to get pressure. One of the best defenders at reading offenses, Karlafitis would be a huge addition. The Falcons could opt for the LB like Christian Harris or even a WR depending on Calvin Ridley's status, so Arkansas' Treylon Burks would make sense. |
| Denver Broncos | Christian Harris LB/Alabama | The Broncos are fairly set at many positions except QB. Without one worth taking (and likely addressing it via free agency or trade) they are open to fill other holes. The best value at a position of need is Harris who rehabbed his stock with a top notch National Championship. Harris had a down year, but still flashes the athletic ability to be a dominant ILB at the NFL level both in coverage and against the run. The Broncos could go for more of an edge rusher if Ojabo or Karlafitis fall, or grab a QB like Mississippi's Matt Corral or Liberty's Malik Willis. |
| New York Jets (f/ SEA) | Tyler Linderbaum C/Iowa | If the Jets want to rehab their offense, it will start upfront. Linderbaum has had one of the best Center seasons ever in the last decade and continues his ascent up draft boards. Plowing holes in the middle of defenses while calling all the line assignments, Linderbaum is a plug and play elite interior player who can play Center or Guard. The Jets could go for more defense though and take LSU CB Derek Stingley or even get an elite WR at this spot. |
| Washington Football Team | Kenny Pickett QB/Pittsburgh | The first QB finally goes off the board at #11 as Washington moves on from Tayor Heinicke. Pickett had a top notch season carrying Pitt to an ACC title. He has good velocity and size with an abiltiy to move around the pocket. Throwing on the run might be his most consistent trait and should fit right into this offense. A late breakout stops him from going Top 10, but he could be a franchise QB. Washington also needs secondary help and has LSU's Derek Stingley staring at them, or they could add to their receiving group with Ohio State's Garrett Wilson to pair with Terry McLaurin. |
| Minnesota Vikings | Derek Stingley Jr. CB/LSU | Stingley falls a bit in this mock due to his medical questions and inconsistent player as a sophomore, but there is little question of the size and athletic talent he holds. A lockdown CB as a true freshman, Stingley has been a top prospect for years. Unfortunately, multiple injuries have knocked him down a peg, but the size and fluidity should endear him to teams. The Vikings will have a whole new regime who may look at the secondary as a massive weakness. Value meets need here. It Stingley isn't available, the Vikings could look at taking an OT like Northern Iowa's Trevor Penning or reach for an EDGE rusher like South Carolina's Kingsley Enagbare. |
| Cleveland Browns | Treylon Burks WR/Arkansas | After trading away Odell Beckham, the Browns simply didn't have the receivers to be able to keep up with good offenses. There is a good chance the top WR in the class is available at 13, and Burks might be it. DK Metcalf like skills at his size and speed, Burks can be an elite #1 WR to draw double coverages. He was most of the passing offense at Arkansas and slides in as a big deep threat for the Browns. They don't have many other holes, but could also sure up their line with Texas A&M's Kenyon Green. |
| Baltimore Ravens | Trevor Penning OT/Northern Iowa | The Ravens offensive line has been in shambles after trading away Orlando Brown, and they may double up at OT this offseason. Penning is the type they like, a massive mauler who will allow Lamar Jackson to get to the edge and make plays. Penning is a bit raw, but he will showcase how he stands with the big boys at the Senior Bowl. The Ravens could also use some defensive upgrades upfront and could consider one of the Georgia Bulldogs like DL Travon Walker or Jordan Davis. |
| Philadelphia Eagles (f/ MIA) | Andrew Booth Jr. CB/Clemson | With thee picks in the top 20, the Eagles will be able to remake a lot of their team with young players. Despite their defense playing well this season, there are some holes at each level that could match up with value. Booth is a smooth athletic corner who would upgrade the secondary to an elite unit. With good coverage ability and make-up speed, Booth can also be a playmaker. The Eagles options are open here from offensive line to linebacker to wide receiver. |
| Philadelphia Eagles (f/ IND) | Nakobe Dean LB/Georgia | An elite LB would also upgrade this Eagles team and Nakobe Dean has flashed that ability this season. Though he is small and on the slower side, the tenacity and tackling ability of Dean (along with his coverage ability) makes him a true 3-down LB. It could be an ideal fit for an Eagles team who hasn't had a high end defender at their second level in years. |
| Los Angeles Chargers | Travon Walker DL/Georgia | The Chargers need some help up front of their defense and they seem to lean to versatile pieces. Walker had an incredible National Championship game rushing off the edge and bumping inside to help against the run. This do it all defender would be an ideal fit along the Chargers front to improve the run defense while staying on the field on 3rd downs. The Chargers could draft a WR if Mike Williams leaves down and Ohio State's Chris Olave could fit the bill. |
| New Orleans Saints | Malik Willis QB/Liberty | The Saints Jameis Winston, Trevor Siemian, and Taysom Hill experiment has failed and they will be in position to grab their next signal caller. If there is a push to move to a more running QB, Willis would be an incredible option to shift this offense. His athleticism is off the charts and he has a huge arm to get the ball to his receivers quickly. Though he holds the ball a bit too long, Willis could improve and be a franchise QB. The Saints also need pass catchers desperately, so look for Southern Cal's Drake London or Alabama's Jameson Williams to be possibilities. |
| Philadelphia Eagles | Drake London WR/Southern Cal | Jalen Reagor has looked like a bust while Devonta Smith flashed signs of being a top receiver. It could be back to the well again if the Eagles want to try and pull in a true jump ball option for Jalen Hurts. London was on pace for a record breaking year before he fractured his ankle, but the red zone threat who is a master of catching 50/50 passes would be a new dimension in this offense. |
| Pittsburgh Steelers | Kenyon Green G/Texas A&M | The Steelers need offensive line help with holes at RG and RT next year. Even if Kevin Dotson stays as a starter, Trai Turner is done and a replacement is needed. Green had a quiet season, but his best game against Alabama helped the Aggies get the victory. He can also be a pulling guard for Najee Harris and help improve this run game. A perfect fit at a good spot. The Steelers could take their future QB though, especially if Pitt's Kenny Pickett is available to stay home. |
| New England Patriots | Ahmad Gardner CB/Cincinnati | The Sauce had an illustrious college career never allowing a TD in his three years at Cincinnati. A press corner who gets very physical and forces wide receivers to fight every route, he would fit in with hard nosed New England. JC Jackson is a top corner, but the Patriots need to do better in the secondary facing Josh Allen twice a year now. Sauce could rectify there. Also look for them to consider a high end WR like Ohio State's Garrett Wilson who could help Mac Jones. |
| Las Vegas Raiders | Jameson Williams WR/Alabama | With Gruden and Mayock out, the direction of the Raiders remains to be seen. Williams is an old school Al Davis type pick with his 4.3 speed coming from a big school, and they will need to find a new #1 WR. Williams was gangbusters this season transferring from Ohio State to Alabama and instantly becoming the top target for Heisman winner Bryce Young. He could slide into the role for the Raiders and immediately help. They also need some interior defensive line help so Texas A&M's DeMarvin Leal or Georgia's Jordan Davis could be a fit. |
| Arizona Cardinals | Bernhard Raimann OT/Central Michigan | With Kelvin Bechum hitting the 33 mark soon, the Cardinals will need an upgrade at RT to keep the offense consistent. Raimann is raw with his hand placement, but the athleticism and power make up for it. He can even kick inside to guard if needed and provides a versatile developmental piece for this offense. A corner like Florida's Kaiir Elam could be an option to solidify the defense. |
| Dallas Cowboys | Lewis Cine S/Georgia | The Cowboys need at safety feels like it has been going on for a decade. A hard hitting enforcer is needed to continue the reins of this defense and provide some back end help to the run defense. Cine has been seen as a Day 2 pick for awhile now, but a monster National Championship game has sent his stock flying up. He is a great fit on an already solid defense. An offensive lineman is always a possibility if the Cowboys are willing to reach for Kentucky's Darian Kinnard or UCLA's Sean Rhyan. |
| Buffalo Bills | Kaiir Elam CB/Florida | The Bills don't have a lot of holes, but suring up their corners and finding another rock solid starter has to be a focus. Elam had an unusual season for Florida with most offenses opting to just not look his direction and pick on weaker parts of the Florida secondary. In part, that shows his prowess as a cover man with good size and athleticism. On the other hand, it is difficult to evlauate a lot of the finer points of the position. There is a good chance he goes higher than this when all is said and done. The Bills could look to the Linebacker position if one of the top 3 guys fall |
| Tennessee Titans | Kingsley Enagbare EDGE/South Carolina | Despite the great record, the Titans have a decent amount of needs moving forward. They could add more offensive dimensions or blocking while they still need to sure up defensive areas. Finding a defensive lineman who can have some versatiliy may help this defense. Enagbare is an intriguing fit as he can put his hand in the dirt along the Titans front to help in the run game while adding another rotational pass rusher with Bud Dupree and Harold Landry as needed. Enagbare's length and production in the SEC makes him a steal this late in the draft. Of course, the Titans still need help in the seconday so they could consider a CB like Washington's Kyler Gordon or Trent Mcduffie as well. |
| Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Roger McCreary CB/Auburn | The Buccaneers pass defense suffered numerous injuries and was just all around ineffective. If Tom Brady is back, the team will likely try and make another run to a Super Bowl, so adding a position that can get on the field is a must. McCreary is an athletic corner who sinks his hips well and is extremely fluid in movement. He had some rough games in terms of mirroring, but the potential is there to be a starting CB down the line in the NFL. Adding to the Offensive Line is always an option for the Bucs too and someone like Georgia's Jamaree Salyer could be an interesting fit. |
| Green Bay Packers | Chris Olave WR/Ohio State | The Packers still need offensive weapons. With Davante Adams possibly leaving the team, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb simply won't cut it. With this being a deep draft at both WR and TE, it would be the perfect one to stock up on offensive weapons. Olave had 4 productive years for the Buckeyes as a smooth athlete who moves in and out of his breaks very quickly. Though not a dominating #1 like Adams, Olave can provide a spark in this offense. If the Packers would rather a TE, someone like Colorado State's Trey McBride or Texas A&M's Jalen Wydermyer may also fit. They could even add an EDGE like Florida State's Jermaine Johnson II if they want to keep neglecting the offense. |
| Cincinnati Bengals | DeMarvin Leal DL/Texas A&M | Leal had a bit of a free fall in this mock draft, but the Bengals go best player available to snatch him up. The Bengals still have big needs on the Offensive Line, but the value just doesn't match-up here. Instead, getting DL depth at the 3-technique with Leal who can move inside and out can help the run defense and add interior pass rush ability. He had a quiet season, but the athleticism and low pad level make him a terror. If the Bengals are looking at the O-Line, one of Buckeyes in Nicholas Petit-Frere or Thayer Munford could be intriguing here. |
| Miami Dolphins (f/ SF) | Devin Lloyd LB/Utah | Lloyd had a spectacular season as the head of Utah's defense making big play after big play. From Pick 6s to sacks, he seemed to be everywhere and do everything this past year. He can be |
| Detroit Lions (f/ LAR) | Sam Howell QB/North Carolina | If QB is a priority for the Lions, this pick might be a sweet spot for value and getting the guy they want to develop behind Jared Goff. Howell seems to fit everything Dan Campbell wants in a QB. Great leader with experience and a little bit of mobility in and out of the pocket. Howell is as tough as they come and carried the North Carolina offense on his back this season. Though his ceiling may be a bit limited, he generally makes good decisions and has solid ball placement (even when his receivers let him down). It would be an ideal fit, and the Lions will be coaching Howell at the Senior Bowl. If it isn't QB, a WR like Penn State's Jahan Dotson would add weapons to a team needing a deep threat. |
| Kansas City Chiefs | Garrett Wilson WR/Ohio State | Wilson had an incredible career for the Buckeyes as their major weapon on the outside. He has Diontae Johnson like quickness off the line to get open quickly, but enough polish and physicality outside to beat a jam. Add in great body control and he can be a full package WR. If Wilson falls this far, the Chiefs could get a steal to add some short area weapons for Patrick Mahomes to check down too and create quick passes to add a new dimension to the offense. The Cheifs could also look at other WRs like Wilson's teammate Chris Olave or even beef up their secondary with CB Roger McCreary. |
