The Seattle Seahawks were a bit of a shock to all of us this past season. After dealing Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, I think most of us assumed that they would falter. To the league’s surprise, Geno Smith led the 12th Man faithful to a 9-8 record AND a playoff appearance.
Though their stay in the postseason would be short-lived, the Comeback Player of the Year, Smith, helped to architect a very encouraging season. I will admit that I actually had Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll on my Hot Seats list early on in the 2022 football year. I can also admit that I was very wrong and dang if the guy didn’t make lemonade out of his lemons.
Let’s talk about a Seattle mock draft below and be sure to discuss on Twitter @MirdaSheWrote or @DraftCountdown!
Seattle Seahawks Full Mock Draft
Round 1, Pick 5: Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech
There has been a lot of Anthony Richardson talk circling the Seahawks. Understanding that folks say he can develop under a veteran guy like Geno, I still don’t subscribe to this move. I think Seattle continues to shore up their lines and skill positions around the Comeback Player of the Year. Not to mention, he just signed a 3-year deal worth a lot of coin.
Tyree Wilson out of Texas Tech would be such a force on their defensive line. After the 2022 defensive additions-most accomplished being Tariq Woolen-maybe we will see a little glimmer of a new Legion of Boom!
Round 1, Pick 20: O’Cyrus Torrence, OL, Florida
Adding Torrence to an already-dominant O-line could be an impressive move. Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas are both dominant tackles and the addition of a guard like Torrence would keep Geno Smith even better-protected. This could fire up an already productive offense.
Round 2, Pick 37 (via Denver): Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa
Seattle management has to consider a guy like Campbell who had one of the best Combine performances! This athletic Linebacker also won the 2022 Butkus Award. When you hear comparisons to a Luke Kuechly you pounce on this stat.
Round 2, Pick 52: John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota
Austin Blythe, the Seahawks starting Center, announced his retirement at the end of February. Clearly, this is a dire need and also a steal in the second round. His size (6’3 and 306 pounds) gives him options to play essentially anywhere on the line-most notably, switching over to a Guard. To get a rookie with this versatility and power would be a home run for Seattle.
Round 3, Pick 83: Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa
Well, well, well. Another Hawkeye! LaPorta ranked first in receptions and second in points scored in relativity to all-time Iowa Tight Ends. I know some folks don’t like the premature comparisons, but when you hear names like Kittle and Engram being thrown around (and after a prolific Combine) we are going to expect great things.
Round 4, Pick 120: Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma
This explosive Sooner, while on the smaller side, makes up for it with his speed. Mims’ 40 time at 4.38 was tied for fourth-fastest among all wideouts. A big-play sort of guy would be an extremely exciting weapon to watch in action green.
Round 5, Pick 148: Moro Ojomo, DI, Texas
Ojomo is praised for his explosive nature and athleticism. By the fifth round, I see no problem taking a chance on a guy who is knocked for his size.
Round 5, Pick 151 (via Pittsburgh): Trey Dean III, S, Florida
This Gator standout has played snaps as cornerback, slot defender, deep safety, and box safety. The multitalented Safety was the Defensive MVP at the East West Shrine Game back in early February. So there’s that! Again, this seems like a steal to snag Dean late in Round five with his elite abilities.
Round 6, Pick 184: Eric Gray, HB, Oklahoma
Adding Eric Gray’s vision and athletic profile to a guy like Walker III would be very effective. His production on passing downs opens up more options for Geno Smith and this budding offense.
I can’t imagine Seattle out-performing their beautiful 2022 class, which were all just incredible in their own right. Let’s take a look back at these guys:
Round 1, Pick 9: OT Charles Cross
Round 2, Pick 40: DE Boye Mafe
Pick 41: RB Kenneth Walker
Round 3, Pick 72: OT Abraham Lucas
Round 4, Pick 109: CB Coby Bryant
Rnd 5, Pick 153: CB Tariq Woolen
Seattle’s Defense was not far from cracking the top 10 so some fresh blood there will help to bolster this team.
On the other side of the ball, hitting the field in 2023 with proven guys like Metcalf, Lockett, and a rehabbed Walker III should be nothing short of exciting!
