Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL Draft Team Mock

Dallas Cowboys

It could be a very tough year for the Dallas Cowboys as they undertake measures to add assets to their roster for another Super Bowl run,  starting that process sitting over the Scary Cap by $ 10 million with their QB DAK taking up just under $ 60 million of the $255-million Cap ceiling.  And they lost their DC to Washington as the team’s Head Coach.

They have been drafting well in recent seasons, but with 7 Picks, and 3 of them being in the 200+ range the real help they will likely mine may be light on gold nuggets and heavy on sand. They say they want to run the ball more on Offense but their starting RB Pollard is a VFA right now. Their roster RB vets are named VAUGHN, DAVIS & CONNOR. Can you put a first name with any of those guys? Enough of such gloom & doom talk. Let’s pick some talent to help this team out.

Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL Draft Team Mock

Round 1, Pick 26   TYLER GUYTON     OT    Oklahoma  6’7/325

Arguably the most athletic, and perhaps the highest potential/high ceiling OT in a very talented group. But with his total of college starts in single digits, one has to wonder how ready he is to step in right away. It would seem questionable to say the least. After 13 years starring in the league LT TYRON SMITH is headed to VFA and the RT starter is overpaid TERRENCE STEELE. Yikes… watch your back ZAK.

Round 2, Pick 56      JAYLON WRIGHT  RB      Tennessee     5’11/210

As mentioned above the team is light at the RB position, especially since TONY POLLARD is a VFA. WRIGHT ran an explosive 4.38/40 at the Combine and is arguably the best RB prospect in this year’s RB group. Now to find the money to keep POLLARD.  Wonder if GM Jerry still has Zeke Elliott’s agent’s phone number.

Round 3, Pick 87   COLE BISHOP      S     Utah    6’2/206

After a very impressive Combine it looks like BISHOP just might be the top S prospect this year. The COWBOYS’ secondary is also a messy crew with another 3 vets who are Free Agents GILMORE, Kearse, and LEWIS. They will all be looking to be paid in order to remain as Dallas Cowboys. And DIGGS is coming back from injury. Bishop most likely won’t be available this late, but I feel kindly toward the Cowboys here.

Round 5, Pick 173      MAX MELTON    CB    Rutgers  5’11 190

In keeping the theme of secondary help let’s go with this young man on the Corner: another good player, and a good athlete, who helped himself with a solid Combine performance. Max is the younger brother of BO MELTON, who was a late 2023 season breakout player with the PACKERS. Should slide into multiple roles in secondary sub-packages immediately. Has long-range starter potential.

Round 6, Pick 213   MYLES MURPHY    DT    UNC   6’4/312

The Cowboys’ Defense, which slipped in their play late in the 2023 season appeared to have concentrated too heavily on team speed and was undermanned and undersized up front on D. With vet NT HANKINS is another of their VFA possible defections. A nice-sized DT, with some penetration skills and lower body strength like MURPHY, could rotate with underachieving 2023 Rookie Mazi Smith

Round 7, Pick 231     C.J. HANSON   OG    Holy Cross   6’5/300

One of many “smaller school” program prospects along the OL this Draft. A good athlete who looks like a solid value Pick this late in the Draft.

Round 7, Pick 242    RYAN FLOURNOY     WR    SE Missouri State   6’1/200

A solid long-range prospect, who demonstrated that he has the athleticism to compete at the pro level while at both the Senior Bowl and Combine. Will need to shine on Special Teams in Training Camp to win a spot filling out the wideout room in Big D.

The Cowboys have a solid scouting staff and usually find talent, even after the Picks run out in the Draft itself. They may need to find a half dozen URFA to fill out the roster this year. Every name above would have a solid chance to make their roster next Fall.

Cheers

Pigskin Paul
