New Orleans Saints Mock Draft 2024

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are in desperate need of new leadership. From the front office to the sidelines, and beyond. Mickey Loomis has been employed by the team since 2002. His team won a Super Bowl thanks to the accurate arm of Drew Brees. The Saints had a nice run for a few years. Now thanks to the Loomis cap shenanigans, the Saints are in a perpetual state of 1-2 games above or below .500 each year.

They consistently kick the can down the road every year and have to pull off theatrics just to be cap-compliant. It has become a clown show at this point.

Head coach Dennis Allen is the man that followed the man (Sean Payton). Allen was a good defensive coordinator. However, this is his second stint as a head coach, and well, the results ain’t great.

Team Needs

Offensive tackle could be viewed as a need if they have given up on former first-rounder Trevor Penning. The former Northern Iowa product hasn’t worked out so far. Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk has been dealing with injuries and may not be long for the NFL.

With Cameron Jordan entering his 13th year in the league at some point you have to replace him. I thought Payton Turner could have been that guy but he hasn’t been great either.

Chris Olave has been good at times but the Saints could use a potential #1 WR or a better #2. AT Perry was a solid rookie and former undrafted WR Rashid Shaheed has been great in the slot and on returns.

They also could use depth on the interior defensive line, at tight end, and in the secondary.

And then there is the Quarterback position. The New Orleans Saints are contractually obligated for a lot of money to pay Derek Carr for at least two more seasons. They are unlikely to be able to draft a franchise passer in the first round in ’24. So, it looks like more of West Coast Andy Dalton for NOLA.

The Picks

We will use the current draft order from the simulator created by our good friends over at Mock Draft Database.

The New Orleans Saints are projected to receive two comp picks for the 2024 NFL Draft. This is in addition to their normal seven draft picks.

1-14: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Amarius Mims is one of the largest men in this draft class. At nearly 6’8″ and 340 pounds, he moves like someone much smaller. Mims has a limited sample size with only eight starts under his belt. However, this has the potential to be a home run selection for the Saints.

2-45: Chris Braswell, EDGE, Alabama

Braswell plays second fiddle to Dallas Turner but he was a productive sack guy for Bama. He could pair with Jordan and Curtis Granderson to give New Orleans a nice rotation.

5-150: Elijah Jones, CB, Boston College

Jones is an experienced corner who is a great athlete. Jones ran a 4.44 at the combine with a 42.5″ vertical and nearly an 11-foot broad jump.

5-168: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, WR, Georgia

Rosemy-Jacksaint is a solid redzone option but likely isn’t a starting-level WR.

5-170: Dallin Holker, TE, Colorado State

Holker isn’t an elite athlete but was productive at CSU. He would be a solid #2 TE.

5-175: Marcus Harris, DL, Auburn

Marcus Harris gives some interior pass-rush ability to a defensive line that needs depth.

6-190: Kingsley Eguakun, IOL, Florida

Eguakun was dominant in phases at the Senior Bowl. He can backup all three interior offensive line positions.

6-199: Frank Crum, OT, Wyoming

The Saints like athletic tackles and Crum was one of the most athletic ones at the Combine. Crum ran the forty at 4.94 seconds. He tested as a 98% athlete.

7-239: Drake Stoops, WR, Oklahoma

Stoops was invited to the Combine but he shined at the Shrine Bowl. He is a phenomenal route runner with reliable hands. While Shaheed can play the slot for the New Orleans Saints, he can take the top off the defense. Stoops can’t. But he can be a more traditional slot.
