4. Scouting Notes
Background Profile
Cade Uluave grew up in South Jordan, Utah, starring as a three-sport athlete (football, baseball, track and field) at Mountain Ridge High School. The son of a former Southern Utah linebacker, Uluave possesses a deep football pedigree. He initially committed to Cal, where he dominated early on, winning Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2023 and earning First-Team All-ACC honors in 2025 with an incredible 100-tackle season. Seeking a return to his roots for his final collegiate campaign, he transferred to BYU ahead of the 2026 season (reportedly turning down interest from Michigan) to become the definitive leader of the Cougars’ defense in the Big 12.
Key Strengths
- Tackling Production: An absolute tackle machine. His 100-tackle season in 2025 showed his ability to consistently diagnose plays, scrape over blocks, and reliably bring down ball carriers in space.
- Coverage Instincts: Unlike many traditional run-stuffing linebackers, Uluave possesses a natural feel for zone drops. With 4 career interceptions and 11 pass deflections, he actively shrinks the middle of the field.
- Football IQ & Leadership: Having played at a high level across three different conferences (Pac-12, ACC, Big 12), his processing speed is NFL-ready. He is a true field general who gets his defensive front aligned pre-snap.
Developmental Focus
At 6’1″, Uluave is slightly undersized for a true middle linebacker at the NFL level. Scouts will want to see him continue proving he can take on and shed massive, climbing offensive guards in the run game without giving up his gap leverage.
