2022 Prospect Recap: Old Dominion at Wake Forest

Wake Forest dominated Old Dominion 42-10 on Friday night. ODU was never really in it.

Let’s look at the 2022 NFL Draft prospects from this game, mostly from the Demon Deacons.

WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS

6    CB   Ja’Sir Taylor                   Sr     5-10 185

Taylor played both the slot and outside. The interception Taylor had was a gift but he returned it 47 yards. He blazed by the ODU kick coverage unit on his way to a 99-yard touchdown. His versatility will be key for him going forward.

79 G      Sean Maginn                  Sr     6-3    298

50 OT   Zach Tom                         Jr      6-5    305

These two were fun to watch. They made running the ball to the left side easy. Zach Tom did a tremendous job sealing off the edge for Christian Beal-Smith’s 48-yard TD. I question his arm length. Sean Maginn is a bully and pancaked Monarch defenders more than once. I think they are both draftable prospects.

1    RB   Christian Beal-Smith           Jr        5-10               201

Beal-Smith does a good job planting his foot and turning upfield. He showed good acceleration getting around the bend. CBS finished with 74 yards rushing and two scores.

23 TE   Brandon Chapman     Sr     6-5    249

If Chapman played, he had little impact. I never saw him on the field.

7    WR Donavon Greene         rSO 6-2    198

Greene was not listed on the two-deep before the game and likely did not play.

5    WR Jaquarii Roberson     Sr     6-1    182

Roberson is productive and has strong hands. He snatched away a ball from a defender on a goal-line fade for a TD. Roberson was targeted 10 times, catching six, for 42 yards and the aforementioned score.

4    K      Nick Sciba                        Jr      5-9    188

Sciba was 6/6 on extra points.

OLD DOMINION MONARCHS

4   QB Stone Smartt Sr 6-4 232

Smartt is listed as a QB here because he was before tonight. After losing a three-way QB battle in fall camp, Smartt has now seemingly embraced the Taysom Hill role. He had two carries for a handful of yards. Smartt caught three passes for 26 yards and he also returned two kicks for 52 yards. With his size, he could easily add another 10-15 pounds and become a move tight end.
