Round 1-3
Pick | Team | Player | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|
| Jacksonville Jaguars | Kayvon Thibodeaux EDGE/Oregon | Thibodeaux's explosive first step as a pass rusher gives him the nod over Hutchinson for the #1 overall pick. Though Thibodeaux has his weaknesses against the run and has had some injuries, but athletic prowess is unmatched. The Jaguars may look to trade doww, but pairing Josh Allen and Thibodeaux could turn their defense into a top tier unit. They may consider Alabama OT Evan Neal as a possibility to help Trevor Lawrence the run game get to where it is needed. |
| Detroit Lions | Aidan Hutchinson EDGE/Michigan | The Lions get the home state boy in Hutchinson at #2. Hutchinson's blend of size, strength, and athleticism make him a high end prospect who can set the edge and get after the passer, as seen against Ohio State this past year. A Heisman Finalist and now a household name, Lions fans will love the improvement to the defense he will bring. Of course, QB isn't out of the question if the Lions fall in love with one at the Senior Bowl where they will be coaching Liberty's Malik Willis and North Carolina's Sam Howell. |
| Houston Texans | Evan Neal OT/Alabama | The Texans have already expressed their desire to trade down and pick up more picks, but if they stay and decide to ride with Davis Mills, Neal is an excellent blidn side choice. He is massive and has the footwork to sustain as a blindside blocker. Though his run blocking can be inconsistent at times, he is punishing when he gets to the second level. The Texans could look at an EDGE rusher if one falls or if Michigan's David Ojabo has a top tier offseason. |
| New York Jets | Kyle Hamilton S/Notre Dame | The Jets have two picks in the top ten and numerous chances to improve their team. This freedom allows them to go Best Player Available at 4 and take my #3 overall rated player in the draft in Hamilton. Kyle Hamilton has Sean Taylor-like range to his game with massive size and playmaking ability. He can be the quarterback of the defense for this squad. Of course, both OT and EDGE are big needs, so they could consider NC State's Ikem Ekwonu or Michigan's David Ojabo here. |
| New York Giants | Ikem Ekwonu OT/NC State | The Giants will have a new regime and that direction may determine this pick. One thing is for sure, their offensive line needs reworked. Ekwonu is a road grading LT who loves pancaking in the run game. He improved massively this season against pass rushers and doesn't let defenders get in clean. If they move to more of a zone blocking scheme, Mississippi State's Charles Cross would be in consideration. The Giants could go with a CB in LSU's Derek Stingley to help on defense. |
| Carolina Panthers | Charles Cross OT/Mississippi State | The Panthers are another team with a glaring hole at Offensive Tackle and Cross is the best pure pass protector on the board. Though the Panthers seem to want to run the ball more, Cross would allow their QB to stay clean and give some power to set the edge on outside zone runs. |
| New York Giants (f/ CHI) | Ahmad Gardner CB/Cincinnati | Sauce isn't the most athletic, but as a press cover corner, he is relentless. Never allowing a TD in his college career, he knocks WRs off timing routes and is in the hip pocket. The Giants need that true #1 CB, and Sauce could provide that right off the bat. |
| Atlanta Falcons | Jermaine Johnson EDGE/Florida State | Johnson was a Georgia transfer who blew it up for the Seminoles. A sack heavy season as a stand-up EDGE put him on NFL radars early in the season. Perhaps the MVP of the Senior Bowl, Johnson has proven he has NFL pass rush ability and tackling chops to be an impact player. The Falcons have searched for a pass rusher for awhile, and Johnson would be it. |
| Denver Broncos | George Karlafitis EDGE/Purdue | The Broncos are in pretty good shape outside of the QB position, and if they address it before the Draft, these picks will be open to build depth. Karlafitis could be an intriguing add to their new defense as a big pass rusher who can go Wide 9 or even play some 3-tech in a pinch. A great rusher and edge setter. |
| New York Jets (f/ SEA) | David Ojabo EDGE/Michigan | Adding an athletic pass rusher is a top priority for the Jets, and Ojabo provides that huge upside. An electric first step allows him to get around the edge fast and get to the QB. When Offensive Lines focused in on Aidan Hutchinson, Ojabo abused 1-on-1s. Putting him opposite Carl Lawson would give the Jets a huge advantage. |
| Washington Commanders | Malik Willis QB/Liberty | Willis has the most upside of any QB in this class with his athleticism and big arm. After a huge Senior Bowl week, Willis is squarely in the top half of the first round and with Washington's desperate need for a QB, he would be a nice fit. Ron Rivera has experience with a bigger version of Willis in Cam Newton and could help structure the offense around his skillset. |
| Minnesota Vikings | Travon Walker DL/Georgia | Walker had an incredible year for Georgia as part edge rusher and part interior lineman. His versatility allowed Georgia to move him around the defense and let him pin his ears and use his strength to collapse the pocket. The Vikings could utilize him in a similar way. |
| Cleveland Browns | Treylon Burks WR/Arkansas | Burks has some DK Metcalf in him as a deep threat who can make big plays all over the field. The Browns passing game sputtered late in the season and having a true alpha who can get the deep ball would add a new dimension. Burks gets separation and should ace the offseason process. |
| Baltimore Ravens | Trevor Penning OT/Northern Iowa | Penning was one of the best FCS players this year and continued that momentum into the Senior Bowl. With great functional strength and a super athletic kick slide, he can be a plug and play LT. The Ravens may need to replace both Tackle positions in this draft and Penning's athleticism would fit with Lamar Jackson and the offense. |
| Philadelphia Eagles (f/ MIA) | Derek Stingley CB/LSU | Stingley had one of the best freshman seasons at CB in the past decade and was a hot 2022 NFL Draft name after that. Unfortunately, he dealt with injuries over the next two years and was a bit less effective. Even so, his athletic upside, physicality, and playmaking skills all should place him in a shutdown CB category for a solid Eagles defense. |
| Philadelphia Eagles (f/ IND) | Kingsley Enagbare EDGE/South Carolina | Enagbare's long arms and athletic ability is right up there in this class. The Eagles could use a bit more pass rush help to solidify the defense and Enagbare would provide that in easily. |
| Los Angeles Chargers | Perrion Winfrey DL/Oklahoma | Winfrey had a great season and a good Senior Bowl week (and likely a big Combine) he has played his way into the back end of the first round. A stout athlete who drives through this hips, he is hard to get lower than. His versatility as a pass rusher from the inside or a run stuffer could help the Chargers defense to add pass rush and run defense. |
| New Orleans Saints | Matt Corral QB/Mississippi | Corral has a thin frame, but his athleticm and lightning quick release are exceptional. Depending on how the new Saints offense goes, getting a smart player who can get the ball out quickly should elevate everyone. Corral could end up going much higher or lower than this as the Combine and interviews should make a big impact. |
| Philadelphia Eagles | Drake London WR/Southern Cal | Jalen Reagor has looked like a bust while Devonta Smith flashed signs of being a top receiver. It could be back to the well again if the Eagles want to try and pull in a true jump ball option for Jalen Hurts. London was on pace for a record breaking year before he fractured his ankle, but the red zone threat who is a master of catching 50/50 passes would be a new dimension in this offense. |
| Pittsburgh Steelers | Kenny Pickett QB/Pittsburgh | The hometown boy could stay home if he is still available at 20 for the Steelers. Though they may want a Willis or Corral, getting Pickett's toughness and throw on the run ability is perfect for Matt Canada's offense. Teams may pass on Pickett due to lack of upside, but he has shown how he can elevate the team around him. Sitting for a bit in Pittsburgh could be ideal. |
| New England Patriots | Garrett Wilson WR/Ohio State | Wilson is an electric route runner with explosiveness off the snap. He gets separation quickly and is tough to stop. The Patriots have needed a true alpha WR for awhile now and should be in position to select one like Wilson. |
| Las Vegas Raiders | Jameson Williams WR/Alabama | Williams speed and electric play helped elevate Alabama's offense to another level. With an ACL tear in the National Championship, teams will need to be comfortable with his speed and ability to be a #1 WR. He would give the Raiders a dynamic do it all WR to keep the offense rolling. |
| Arizona Cardinals | Kaiir Elam CB/Florida | Elam was one of those corners that QBs just didn't throw toward throughout the season. Though it made his evaluation difficult, he is athletic enough to impress and stick with top WRs at the next level. The Cardinals still need a solid lock down CB and Elam has that potential. |
| Dallas Cowboys | Lewis Cine S/Georgia | The Cowboys need at safety feels like it has been going on for a decade. A hard hitting enforcer is needed to continue the reins of this defense and provide some back end help to the run defense. Cine has been seen as a Day 2 pick for awhile now, but a monster National Championship game has sent his stock flying up. He is a great fit on an already solid defense. An offensive lineman is always a possibility if the Cowboys are willing to reach for Kentucky's Darian Kinnard or UCLA's Sean Rhyan. |
| Buffalo Bills | Travis Jones DL/UConn | Jones made the rise into the first after an excellent Senior Bowl week and performance in the game. The uber-athletic Nose Tackle was double teamed constantly on a poor UConn defense, but still fought through to make an impact. He has great leverage and a great explosive power. The Bills would upgrade their run defense and add a 3-down Nose in the same breath with this pick. |
| Tennessee Titans | Andrew Booth Jr. CB/Clemson | Booth is a very athletic corner who can tackle. The Titans struggled against the pass for much of the year, and adding a high pedigree #1 CB would go a long way. Not only does Booth have the speed and quickness to stick with top WRs, he is a good wrap-up tackler as well. |
| Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Kyler Gordon CB/Washington | Gordon should be a riser over the next few months with great workouts and smooth transitions. One half of the great Husky CB duo, Gordon gives a little more size and range. The Buccaneers desperately need depth in the seconday, and Gordon could step in sooner rather than later and contribute. |
| Green Bay Packers | Christian Harris LB/Alabama | Harris' stock has been pretty volatile throughout the process this year, but after a tremendous National Championship game, he has risen back into the mid-first round. An explosive athlete who can cover Tight Ends as needed, Harris would add a new dimension to the Packers defense and be a perfect fit as an all around LB. |
| Miami Dolphins (f/ SF) | Tyler Linderbaum C/Iowa | Linderbaum should go higher than this, but interior offensive linemen do fall in most drafts. One of the most physical players in this year's draft, Linderbaum was ripping open running lanes all season. His toughness and leadership would make him an instant starter at Center or Guard for a team. The Dophins can use any OLine upgrade they can get. |
| Kansas City Chiefs | Chris Olave WR/Ohio State | Olave is a smooth athlete who can be what Mecole Hardman was supposed to turn into. With experience outside and in the slot, he glides on the field in routes to get open. Another clean weapon for Mahomes and company would be welcome. |
| Cincinnati Bengals | Kenyon Green G/Texas A&M | The Bengals Offensive Line is still troublesome, so getting the top Guard in Green would be incredible. Green was dominant against Alabama this year springing RB Isaiah Spiller for big games. He also shows good steadiness in pass protection and can sure up the middle for Joe Burrow. |
| Detroit Lions (f/ LAR) | Sam Howell QB/North Carolina | If QB is a priority for the Lions, this pick might be a sweet spot for value and getting the guy they want to develop behind Jared Goff. Howell seems to fit everything Dan Campbell wants in a QB. Great leader with experience and a little bit of mobility in and out of the pocket. Howell is as tough as they come and carried the North Carolina offense on his back this season. Though his ceiling may be a bit limited, he generally makes good decisions and has solid ball placement (even when his receivers let him down). It would be an ideal fit, and the Lions will be coaching Howell at the Senior Bowl. If it isn't QB, a WR like Penn State's Jahan Dotson would add weapons to a team needing a deep threat. |
