Washington Commanders 2026 7 Round NFL Mock Draft!

The Washington Commanders came off a stunning playoff run the prior season, and due to injuries and some roster holes, fell back to earth in year two of the Dan Quinn/Jayden Daniels era. After a lot of activity near the beginning of free agency, this roster has fewer starting holes at this point in time.

Thanks to Spotrac and Ourlads for the great overview, and my needs heading into this mock are another top-end safety to pair with Nick Cross, and a lot of depth that can produce in time. At pick seven, if there’s an elite edge piece, I’d consider it, or even one of the top tackles; otherwise, I’m smashing draft for Caleb Downs and not looking back.

Note: Teams inevitably trade draft picks during the draft; I will not be. I’m standing pat and selecting based on how the roster will look today, so no free agency either.

2026 Washington Commanders: Overview

A significant portion of the top-end salaries is for players 29 and up, but those contracts will come off the books over the next couple of seasons.

And looking at their depth chart, I love the way they attacked free agency, landing proven vets who can step in and start day one and play meaningful reps. On the offensive side, Rachaad White is electric, and Chig Okonkwo is the pass-catching threat they needed to pair with strong blocking tight ends. Looking ahead to the draft, their needs are few and more focused towards young depth that has upside to produce when some of these older vets have moved on.

Washington Commanders 2026 7 Round NFL Mock Draft

#7 – Caleb Downs, SAF, Ohio State

#71 – Chris Bell, WR, Louisville

#147 – Isaiah World, OT, Oregon

#187 – Thaddeus Dixon, CB, North Carolina

#209 – Matt Gulbin, IOL/C, Michigan State

#223 – Lander Barton, LB, Utah

If you jump over to our YouTube channel, you’ll see in the video version of this mock that the top edge and offensive tackles were off the board by pick seven, so Caleb Downs made too much sense not to take. Jeremiyah Love is arguably the best player in the draft. I just don’t see them needing that piece enough to bite when Caleb Downs is arguably the #2 or 3 player in the class, at a position of need. It just makes too much sense to lock down that position.

Washington Commanders 2026 7 Round NFL Mock Draft Analysis

After Downs, the draft just kept gifting me with talent for the Commanders. Bell is a more athletic Noah Brown. Isaiah World could be your left tackle of the future when Tunsil retires, or you train him to be a swing tackle/guard and see where he fits better.

Thaddeus Dixon has the prototypical size/speed to be an outside corner and just needs some development to push for starting reps in time.

Gulbin is a gritty interior or even the center of the future, making up for a weaker athletic profile with unmatched tenacity at the position. Lander Barton rounds out the class as a great depth linebacker who can learn from one of the best to do it, Bobby Wagner! He’s a physical, sure tackler who gives me throwback late 90’s/early 00’s vibes, with more mobility to sideline to sideline in time.

I think this draft would set you up nicely for a variety of reasons. This team sees itself as a contender (and I don’t argue that to some degree). What they needed was to shore up that secondary, and I did. I would’ve liked to add a true edge rusher or interior defensive lineman, but the draft just didn’t fall that way for me.

Thanks for Stopping By!
