2023 Senior Bowl: Day Three Practice Report

Senior Bowl

The 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl held its final set of practices on Thursday. The threat of rain was present all day but it never came to be. It was a tad blistery and my choice of outerwear was probably a mistake.

SENIOR BOWL NATIONAL TEAM PRACTICE NOTES

GENERAL NOTES

After missing yesterday’s practice, Ohio State OT Dawand Jones missed practice again. He was present today but did not participate. South Carolina OL Jovaughn Gwyn came in to fill his spot.

Troy LB Carlton Martial also missed practice again but hopes to play on Saturday. Illinois safety Jartavius Martin was also in street clothes today.

RB/LB 1-on-1 PASS PRO

I only caught a handful of these reps before switching my attention over to the WRs and DBs.However, it should be noted that Cincinnati LB Ivan Pace Jr. is still laying waste to the backs who tried to block him.

WR/DB 1-on-1s

The theme for today’s National team wide receivers was drops. All the drops. This was especially true in the red zone portion of the drills. Amongst the pass catchers who had some success was Michael Wilson (WR/Stanford) and Tre Tucker (WR/Cincinnati).

A player I knew little about coming to this week was Charlotte WR Grant Dubose. Dubose probably doesn’t have top-end speed but he can get open and make a tough catch,

Purdue TE Payne Durham had a great day of practice as well. The Boilermaker caught a nice ball down the seam in one rep. He then finished off a TD without his lid.

OTHER NOTES

Jayden Reed (WR/Michigan State), Tre Tucker, and Ronnie Bell (WR/Michigan) were taking punt return reps.

Army edge rusher Andre Carter does not look comfortable dropping into pass coverage. this isn’t unexpected. Just noteworthy.

I had to cut this practice a little short to do a radio spot but I saw most of it.

SENIOR BOWL AMERICAN TEAM PRACTICE NOTES

GENERAL NOTES

Miami-Fl CB Tyrique Stevenson missed today’s practice as a precautionary measure but is expected to play Saturday. Oklahoma State DB Jason Taylor II was brought in to take his reps.

WR/DB 1-on-1s

South Carolina CB Darius Rush continues to stand out this week with his ball skills. Rush has now gone back-to-back practices with multiple interceptions.

Oregon State TE Luke Musgrave is every bit as explosive as he was advertised.

Rashee Rice (WR/SMU) struggled a little bit in red zone 1-on-1s but excelled outside of it. FSU DB Jammie Robinson showed off nice closing speed as well.

I thought today was the best day of practice this week for South Alabama CB Darrell Luter, Jr.

OTHER NOTES

Georgia K Jake Podlesny easily hit a 57-yard field goal during the middle of today’s practice.

I will be back again on Saturday with my report on the 2023 Resse’s Senior Bowl game.

Also, check out my 3-Round Mock Draft from Monday.
