Three full weeks of college football are officially in the books, and the 2027 NFL Draft puzzle pieces are coming together. The Draft Countdown mailbag is back, and our readers and team members are asking the right questions about elite wide receiver duos, early stock evaluations for marquee signal-callers, and the biggest risers on the board after a chaotic opening month.
Let’s dive right into this week’s lineup!
2027 NFL Draft Mailbag #3
Question 1: Arizona State’s Dynamic Wide Receiver Duo
Shane H. from Pittsburgh, PA wants to know just how high the Arizona State wide receiver duo can climb in the draft.
The Answer:
Arizona State is privileged to have a pair of future NFL wide receivers in Reed Harris and Omarion Miller. I came into the season knowing very little about Harris and had a day-three grade on Miller. Miller hasn’t produced to the expected level so far in 2026. But Reed Harris certainly has. Harris is extremely fluid for a big wide receiver. And is putting up monster numbers so far this year. Harris is on a trajectory that could ultimately lead to a late first-round selection. But more likely early on day two.
Question 2: Early Season Observations on Marquee College QBs
Bubba from Georgia checks in asking for early-season observations on the big-name college quarterbacks across the country.
The Answer:
Let’s keep this related to the 2027 NFL Draft. The biggest early surprise has been the efficiency and production of Miami’s Darian Mensah. To the point where I think he is in contention to be the top pick in the draft. Texas QB Arch Manning has been impressive in spurts. Especially in the 2nd half against Ohio State. Dante Moore (Oregon) struggled against the two teams they played with a pulse. Most notably against Oklahoma State. He rebounded against Portland State. But that really doesn’t count.
Southern Cal passer Jayden Maiava has been impressive early in the 2026 season. And as we discussed in yesterday’s Tuesday Heat Check, Trinidad Chambliss is making it hard to keep him out of the first round.
South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers has not made it difficult to drop him down the board. Same with LSU’s Sam Leavitt. C.J. Carr (Notre Dame), Julian Sayin (Ohio State), and Drew Mestemaker (Oklahoma State) have all flashed NFL abilities thus far, but I am kind of treating all three as 2028 NFL Draft prospects. Until I can’t.
Question 3: Stock Check on Defensive Trench Monsters
Zac on the Draft Countdown Discord asks: Are the Chapman brothers (UTSA Defensive backs) actually really good?
The Answer:
We are going to be honest here. I had no idea who either of these two players were until Zac asked about them in the DC Discord on Saturday night. I have not watched a UTSA game this year. Assad and Ahamad Chapman, twin brothers, are both tall and lean third-year cornerbacks for the Roadrunners. And by all accounts, they did a nice job against the more elite Texas wide receivers this past Saturday. With their size and likelihood to transfer together to a Power 4 school next year, they bear monitoring going forward.
